On Friday morning, someone wickedly edited the Wikipedia page of “real-life haunted doll” Annabelle, claiming that the doll had escaped the Warren’s Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut.
The rumor immediately spread throughout the internet, leaving social media users in fear, although most of them were not surprised as it is 2020, after all—a year filled with upsetting news.
However, the statement on Wikipedia turned out to be false as Annabelle hasn’t lived in the museum for some time now. The museum closed down due to zoning violations, and its possessions went to Tony Spera, the son-in-law of the late paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren who were portrayed in the Conjuring and Annabelle films.
Spera delivered the relieving news in a YouTube video. “I’m here to tell you something. I don't know if you want to hear this or not, but Annabelle did not escape,” he said from the now-defunct museum.
“Annabelle is alive. Well, I shouldn’t say alive. Annabelle’s here, in all her infamous glory. She never left the museum. Remember, I have high-tech security here. If she had left the museum I’d instantly know if something happened or somebody broke in,” he added in the video.
If you’re not familiar with the real-life story, the doll is known to be possessed by an evil spirit. The doll was owned by two young women, who had seen it moving about in their apartment and leaving written letters around.
Soon, the two of them approached the Warrens to investigate the paranormal activities surrounding the doll. This story inspired the 2014 horror film Annabelle.
