You witnessed the world of the Upside Down in Stranger Things from afar, unharmed, from your television screen. Soon, you can get much closer to the lion’s den but without the risk of being the next Will Byers—or worse, Barb.
Netflix will soon be opening the gates of the town of Hawkins and let you enter it, “all from the safety of your car.” Visitors will be transported back to the year 1985 and experience an evening as a Hawkins resident in the upcoming Stranger Things Drive-Into.
On the surface, Hawkins doesn’t have much to offer. Its only site of recreation is the Starcourt Mall. But viewers know that there’s something bigger lurking in the town’s shadows.
The real-life recreation of Hawkins will take root in a central Downtown Los Angeles location, where travelers will “dive into and explore a living, breathing story to savor some of the best moments from the Netflix series, and maybe even witness some unforeseen and unusual occurrences,” Netflix describes.
Fans can start registering to visit Hawkins from 26 August at 12pm PT, with tickets being priced from US$59 per car. Entry to the fictional town will be allowed from October 2020, so this might be Netflix’s safe answer to holding a Halloween event amid the persistent COVID-19 situation. The company’s immersive Halloween experiences from years back saw it reviving the world of Stranger Things in Universal Studios theme parks.
A visit may only last a little over an hour, but as they say, time passes much slower in hell.
