Steve Carrell Details ‘Emotional Torture’ Of His Departure From ‘The Office’

The Office cast members had to say goodbye to Steve Carell after seven seasons of his role as Michael Scott. The Goodbye Michael episode was a tearjerker for fans, cast members, and especially Carell.
In the recent episode of the An Oral History of The Office podcast, host Brian Baumgartner, who played Kevin Malone in the show, asked Carell how he felt during the filming of his final episode and how it was like to leave the show, cast, crew, and his character of the “world’s best boss” behind.
“It was almost more than I bargained for. I had [goodbye] scenes with everyone in the cast, and it was emotional torture, it was like just fraught with emotion and, and joy and sadness and nostalgia,” Carell said about his final episode.
“But it was also really beautiful. I’d like treasure just doing that episode because it did allow me to kind of have finality with everybody.”
