After years of hot-blooded rivalry, things are getting saucy between two fast-food icons.
Joining the Helsinki Pride celebrations this year, Burger King Finland comes out as a lover of the Golden Arches in an amusing yet endearing campaign produced by ad agency TBWA\Helsinki and media partner Virta Helsinki.
The initiative features a painting of Burger King’s mascot sharing a “long-awaited kiss” with McDonald’s Ronald McDonald, their intertwined silhouettes forming a heart shape. The advert includes the text, “Love conquers all.”
“Burger King has always stood for equality, love and everyone’s right to be just the way they are,” said Kaisa Kasila, brand manager at Burger King Finland, in a press release.
While this acceptance isn’t always so obvious, especially when a certain clown is involved, the company insists it is all just “banter.”
“We want to be clear – it all stems from the respect we have for them,” Kasila reassured. “And we know McDonald’s stands for the values we stand for, too.”
The painting is being displayed around Finland, including Burger King’s own restaurants, as Helsinki celebrates its annual Pride Week.
“The idea behind the painting sprung from our desire to celebrate love in all forms” Kasila explained. “We thought, what a better way to convey our values than by portraying an all-encompassing kiss between Burger King and McDonald’s. We wanted to show that in the end, love always wins.”
