New York Fashion Week is taking place this weekend, and color standards expert PANTONE has
released its official prediction of the top 10 colors and five core classics that fashion designers are set to incorporate in their fresh spring/summer 2021 collections.
PANTONE predicts that the top 10 fashion colors of NYFW will inspire “ingenuity and inventiveness” and the core classics will exhibit “versatility [that] transcends the seasons and allow for more freedom of choice.”
An unexpected shade in the spring color palette is ‘Rust,’ an earth-inspired brown that seems to be straight out of a fall color palette.
On the other hand, ‘Amethyst Orchid’ hits the nail of springtime with a floral shaded purple tone. An ‘Illuminating’ hue brings a wave of optimism that can be felt on a sunny day with its glowing yellow shade, while the ‘Green Ash’ shade soothes, simulating a mentholated breeze.
The rest of the striking fashion colors are ‘Cerulean’, ‘French Blue,’ ‘Marigold,’ ‘Mint,’ ‘Burnt Coral,’ and ‘Raspberry Sorbet.’
PANTONE also named five core classics to offer more flexibility for pairing with spring and summer looks.
‘Buttercream’ is a handy off-white shade, while ‘Inkwell’ is an intense blackened blue shade. ‘Ultimate Gray’ lingers in between, casting an assuring blend to rely upon.
The other two tones are ‘Desert Mist,’ described as “shifting powdery sands,” and ‘Willow,’ a sunshade of green that both “reveals and conceals.”
PANTONE also teamed up with
Adobe Stock to curate
a series of images to represent the top 10 fashion colors, as well as the five color classics.
