Nintendo is giving its fans the ultimate throwback by re-releasing its retro ‘Game & Watch’ handheld device, which was first introduced in 1980.
The iconic gadget propelled Nintendo’s position into the video game industry way before the famous Game Boy was created in the ‘90s.
Back then, each device was only optimized for a single black-and-white game and featured a digital alarm clock.
The new and improved version will now be relaunched for the device’s 40th anniversary. Though it might appear like the original gear with its nostalgic exterior design, it has now been given modern upgrades including a color LCD screen and a rechargeable battery with a USB-C connector.
The device will also let users play up to three games: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels and Ball (the Mario version).
It will stay true to its original functions with an alarm clock, which can be opened with the tap of a button. However, it now comes with 35 different screen-saver options displaying the beloved Mario character interacting with the digital clock.
The latest Game & Watch edition will be available on 13 November 2020 for a limited time.
