Facebook Reality Labs has revealed its new venture,
Project Aria, which will develop its first pair of augmented-reality glasses in 2021.
Project Aria is working on a series of different AR technologies, including a pair of research glasses and wearable controllers, for the company’s future AR products.
Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the company has teamed up with fashion eyewear company EssilorLuxottica to develop prototypes for the smart glasses.
The company will undergo at least two stages, the first focusing on the wearable’s basic workings and the next diving deeper into AR functions and other features, before launching the smart glasses under the Ray-Ban brand name next year.
