Disney has unveiled its new mural at Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District to memorialize the late Black Panther star, Chadwick Boseman.
The tribute, titled King Chad, was created by concept artist Nikkolas Smith, and it shows Boseman and a young fan adorably exchanging the Wakanda salute. The young child, dressed in a blue hospital gown with a Black Panther face mask, looks up at Boseman.
The touching art is a nod to Boseman’s trips visiting sick kids in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital while he battled with colon cancer.
Smith shared his artwork on Instagram, writing, “To millions of kids, T’Challa was a legend larger than life, and there was no one more worthy to fill those shoes than Chadwick Boseman.”
“I’m so thankful to be able to honor Chadwick’s life and purpose in this way,” he continued. Boseman died at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with the illness.
My #KingChad tribute is now on display at Downtown Disney. I'm so thankful to be able to honor Chadwick’s life and purpose in this way. I am grateful to the @Disney family for being so supportive of my journey as an artist.
