Apple sparked an uproar after revealing that power adapters and earphones will not be included in packaging for the new iPhone 12 series, confirming a dreaded rumor that fans were hoping would not come true.
Now, it appears that the company has lowered prices for the accessories that used to be shipped free with iPhones, MacRumors notes.
The EarPods with a Lightning connector now costs US$19, down US$10 from the previous US$29 price.
Meanwhile, Apple has discontinued its US$29 18W power adapter for iPhones and replaced it with a 20W version, priced at US$19.
The company alluded the removal of the accessories to environmental reasons, which results in slimmer packaging that allows 70-percent more boxes to be transported in a single pallet. It also reasoned that many customers have switched to the wireless AirPods, so the free EarPods are no longer necessary.
Most importantly, Apple said that it stands to cut back on carbon emissions, now that there’s no need to produce so many power adapters and wired earphones.
