The immersive magic of Japanese digital art collective teamLab blooms in New York City’s One Vanderbilt skyscraper with its latest public piece,
Continuous Life and Death at the Now of Eternity II, Grand Central Terminal.
In spite of being reputed for its fantastical and vibrant interpretations of nature, teamLab’s new flower artwork depicts flora that transforms in tandem with the clockwork of Mother Nature.
The digital flowers “are born, bloom, wither, and die all with the flow of real time,” the collective
explains. The artwork is created in hopes of illustrating humankind’s role in preserving nature and, ultimately, civilization.
“Nature brings us both blessings and disaster, and with the progress of civilization, there are benefits and negative implications: nature and civilization are always connected…” the creators detail. “Nevertheless, we want to affirm that we are alive regardless of the situation. Life is beautiful.”
