TIME magazine has switched out its logo on the front cover for the first time in its 100-year-history to encourage voting in the upcoming presidential elections.
The magazine’s November cover, designed by OBEY’s Shepard Fairey, now reads as “VOTE.” The designer is also known for his Hope poster, which is famously but unofficially tied to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008.
The new cover depicts a person wearing a bandana face mask, which sports a voting ballot box in the middle. This simple yet impactful poster highlights the importance of voting even during the coronavirus pandemic
“Even though the subject in the portrait knows there are additional challenges to democracy during a pandemic,” Fairey’s statement read, the individual will utilize their “voice and power by voting.”
