This Halloween season, Burger King is daring customers to summon a frightening clown in the likeness of McDonald’s former mascot, Ronald McDonald, in its restrooms.

The campaign, birthed from creative agency INGO Sweden, uses the famous urban legend known as ‘Bloody Mary’.

Since the ‘60s, some believe that if you call out the name “Bloody Mary” thrice in front of a mirror, a ghostly figure of a woman will appear before you. This unsettling childhood superstition has been carried into various films, television shows, and games.

Now, Burger King takes on the urban legend and swaps it out with a creepy clown that bears resemblance to McDonald’s former mascot, Ronald McDonald.

This time around, customers in selected restaurants across Sweden and Denmark are challenged to call out “Cancelled Clown” three times in front of the mirrors in the establishments’ restrooms.

The fast-food company claims that if you follow through with the challenge, the lights will go off, and an eerie clown will stand before you.

Burger King promises to reward the boldest customers who come face-to-face with the “Cancelled Clown.”
