UNIQLO has created the world’s first-ever digital artworks using human body temperature in real-time.
In its new campaign with creative agency TBWA\HAKUHODO, entitled We Stay Warm Together, the Japanese retailer enlisted renowned artists—interactive designer and programmer Daito Manabe; visual artist Raven Kwok; and singer, songwriter, and music producer, Akini Jing—to convey the message of staying resilient together as the winter season approaches amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The project showcases digital artworks created using human body temperature in real-time, similar to the brand’s flagship model HEATTECH, which lets wearers experience warmth generated from their own heat.
The artworks were produced through a technology that used three cameras: a color camera, a thermal camera, and a depth camera. The color camera captured the real-life images, while the thermal camera detected infrared radiation energy. The depth camera then marked the distance between objects to study the motions.
The technology analyzes the subject's infrared radiation energy and his or her movements to create visual graphics stemmed from body heat distribution data.
UNIQLO has also created an augmented-reality Instagram feature that generates patterns based on your movements. Try it out by scanning the QR code below.
