The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the usage of NightWare, an Apple Watch app aimed to assist people who experience nightmares driven by disorders like PTSD.
The app utilizes smartwatch motion and heart rate data to monitor when the user is experiencing a nightmare. The watch will then vibrate to interrupt the bad dream without actually disrupting sleep.
According to the FDA, the app showed to have improved sleep quality when tested in a control group study. However, NightWare requires a prescription and isn’t created to be used as a standalone treatment.
It aims to work along with medication and existing treatment and functions as an assistant for good rest.
