With the coronavirus pandemic expected to drag on into 2021, automated handwashing stations are becoming prevalent as an alternative contactless hygiene solution.
Manufacturer Meritech has developed a range of handwashing machines that have been “clinically proven to remove more than 99.9-percent of harmful pathogens from hands in 12 seconds using 75 percent less water than a traditional sink.”
The company’s chief technology officer Paul Barnhill describes that there is a trend of the machines becoming more widely used nowadays, elaborating that an undisclosed grocery chain has even installed the machines in its produce sections.
The mechanism features spinning cylinders that spray pressurized water and cleaning solutions evenly across all surfaces of the hand. The user, however, should refrain from placing their hands on the machine to avoid contact, and instead leave them hanging in the middle of the circular sinks.
