Work-from-home arrangements during the COVID-19 crisis have driven a need for multipurpose furniture. Ryohin Keikaku, parent company of Japanese “no-brand” lifestyle brand MUJI, found it the right time to release a line designed to help customers cope with the new changes at home.
MUJI’s latest furniture series, its first in 11 years, is delightfully minimal and versatile, not only for aesthetics but also to ensure the pieces “can be used for a long time” no matter the living environment.
The company describes that the furniture, crafted from oak and oak veneer, has been reduced to “boards and legs,” indicating that each design has been simplified to its core. For this reason, there are only three pieces of furniture here—a bed, sofa, and table—with interchangeable leg sizes to accommodate every living space.
The legs are sold separately, and range between 5cm (a little under 2″) and 26cm (10″) for the bed and sofa. Meanwhile, customers can opt for up to a height of 72cm (28″) for the table legs.
MUJI hopes that, with this interpretation of sustainability, the furniture’s lifespan and use will be prolonged. There’ll also be no need to change out these home necessities whenever you relocate or making adjustments to your interior.
The collection will debut in Japan on 13 November. Release details for other parts of the world are unclear, however.
