This creative tableware will get you to put down your smartphone while having your meal.
Designed by the Norway Fishery Council, the balance plate is influenced by classic Japanese aesthetics, and it features a tray-like plate with a standing leg. That’s right, it comes with one leg, so you will have to prop it up with your smartphone to hold your food.
There is a slot found on the underside to insert your smartphone into. This means you can only touch the device after you’re done eating, allowing you to actually appreciate your meal.
The company decided to come up with the design after it found out through a survey that 75-percent of indivduals had trouble enjoying their food during mealtimes. One in three participants felt stressed from reading texts while eating.
While the tableware is not for sale, the company is giving out 10 to 30 of its balance plates to lucky users in Japan who follow its
Instagram account. Customers will simply need to post a photo of a sumptuous-looking mackerel dish with the hashtag “#SABABREAK” between now and 8 December, and they will stand a chance to snag a plate for themselves.
