Pepsi’s 2L Bottles Get First Redesign In 30 Years, Are Slimmer & More Functional

PepsiCo has announced that its two-liter bottles are getting their first makeover in 30 years.
The bottle is getting a slimmer look to appear more “modern, functional and easy-to-use,” allowing consumers to grip and pour the cola more conveniently.
Previously, the standard two-liter bottle had a circumference of 13.4”. The revised bottle’s grip point has slimmed down to 10.4”, representing a 25-percent reduction, to accommodate the consumer’s hand.
According to PepsiCo’s consumer research, an average hand measures between 7” and 8.6”. Therefore, the redesign will provide a more manageable grip.
The slender redesign also “prevents additional plastic use.” Further, the label on the new bottle uses 24-percent less material than the original iteration.
The new design will roll out across two-liter bottles of the brand’s flagship portfolio products, including Pepsi options, MTN Dew, Crush, Dr. Pepper and Schweppes Ginger Ale.
Emily Silver, vice president of innovation and capabilities for PepsiCo, said, “This redesign makes it substantially easier for consumers to grab bottles off the shelf and to pour at home.”
The new bottle design is part of the company’s move to make its packaging 100-percent recyclable or biodegradable within the next five years.
