Zoom has announced that it will remove its timed meeting limit for free video calls on Thanksgiving Day.
The company posted the news on Twitter, stating that it will lift the time limit worldwide on 26 November 2020, so “your family gatherings don’t get cut short.”
The platform usually offers free video calls of up to 40 minutes, so users would have to create a new call to continue the conference or opt for the paid plans for unlimited minutes, which are priced from US$150 to US$200 per year.
Zoom made its announcement shortly after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidelines on small gatherings during the holiday season. Since the coronavirus pandemic is still present, the CDC advises the public to delay, cancel or limit physical contact for the celebrations, making video calls a less stressful option during this time.
As a thank you to our customers, we will be lifting the 40-minute limit for all meetings globally from midnight ET on Nov. 26 through 6 a.m. ET on Nov. 27 so your family gatherings don't get cut short. ❤️🏡 #ZoomTogether pic.twitter.com/aubsH0tfxG
