Balenciaga is set to debut its Fall/Winter 2021 collection… through a video game.
Titled Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow, the video game will be set in the year 2031 and will give an “in-depth look at the new collection and the projected future in which it is intended to be worn.”
Billed as an “allegorical adventure,” the game will explore the collection’s theme of human destiny through “mythological pasts” and “projected futures.”
According to WWD, the game will also feature a hero avatar that advances throughout distinct zones and is motivated by tasks and interactions.
The decision marks the brand’s latest departure from the classic catwalk event that has dominated fashion for the longest time, as brands strive to develop new visual strategies in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
Balenciaga will present its collection on Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow on 6 December at 2pm.
