You’ve seen the impersonations from Saturday Night Live, but an upcoming satirical response to the government comes straight from people familiar with the process: the Obamas.
Deadline reports that Higher Ground Productions, owned by former US president and first lady Barack and Michelle Obama, is working with Adam Ruins Everything creator and host Adam Conover to develop a new sketch comedy series based on Donald Trump’s administration.
The show, called The G Word with Adam Conover, is loosely based on Michael Lewis’ non-fiction book The Fifth Risk and will stream on Netflix. As detailed in the book’s description, the story explores the disorder and unsteady leadership demonstrated in the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, and Energy during the cusp of the new administration taking over.
According to Insider, the sitcom will follow “the chaotic transition of power when Donald Trump became president in 2016.”
The G Word with Adam Conover will feature some documentary elements and probe viewers into questioning if the government is to be trusted or not.
The Obamas acquired the rights to The Fifth Risk in 2018. Production for the series will begin in early 2021.
