Google is reportedly testing a dark mode for its desktop web search site, per a report by
9to5Google.
The move follows the trend where companies introduce darker interfaces across apps for darkness lovers. According to
9to5Google, Google’s white background is switched to a dark gray hue that matches first-party mobile apps in this view.
Its logo is swapped to white, instead of being multi-colored, but the microphone icon remains unchanged. The colorful icons that represent the different filters (All, Images, News) are tinted in blue.
In dark mode, black text is now gray, and the page names or links are colored in blue.
This look matches the dark mode version in the Google Search mobile app, which has been available since May 2020. This look, however, isn’t extended to the Google.com homepage yet, probably because it is still a test feature.
The dark mode hasn’t been rolled out entirely, and only a handful of users have encountered the feature so far.
