Last week, vice president Mike Pence had announced that the officers from the US Space Force would now be called Guardians. Soon, Star Wars icon Mark Hamill chimed in on Twitter, pointing out several resemblances between the new government body’s branding with iconic sci-fi franchises.
Hamill took to Twitter to list out all the similarities between the agency, and sci-fi films. The actor joking claimed that the US Space Force had stolen the term “Guardians” for its officers from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and the “Force” part of its name from Star Wars.
On top of that, the logo itself bears resemblance to the emblem seen in Star Trek, something that many already identified.
Hamill’s tweet was a direct response to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn’s post about whether it was possible to sue for the term “Guardians.”
“Can we sue this dork?” Gunn questioned on Twitter after Pence’s announcement. Hamill then responded to the tweet by saying, “So they grab the ‘Guardians’ from your movies, they use the ‘Force’ from our movies... then they have the gall to just steal their logo from Star Trek? Let’s file a [three]-way joint lawsuit [and] really nail these larcenous bastards! #MayTheDorksBeWithYou.”
