Mattel is buckling up for a sustainable ride with the release of its new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology die-cast Matchbox car, celebrating the iconic G-Class’s electric debut with impressive eco-credentials and authentic details.

Cast at a 1:64th scale, the exclusive premium model features the MANUFAKTUR South Seas Blue Magno exterior and a sleek black interior, mimicking the real electric G-Class. And crafted with nearly 99.5% recycled metal and over 81% ISCC-certified plastic, the Matchbox G-Class isn’t just fun; it’s kind to the planet too, adhering to a mass balance approach that mixes recycled materials with conventional ones during production.

This release is part of Matchbox’s ongoing initiative, Driving Toward a Better Future, launched in 2022 to include more electric vehicles in its lineup and to use sustainable materials across all products by 2030. “We're thrilled to be celebrating an iconic brand like Mercedes-Benz, which has continued to break boundaries in the electric vehicle space culminating in this momentous release of the first Mercedes-Benz all-new electric G-Class,” expresses Roberto Stanichi, global head of vehicles at Mattel. “We can’t think of a better way to mark the occasion than with the exclusive Matchbox die-cast release. We can drive toward a better future together as we stay committed to using more sustainable materials while simultaneously bringing fans realistic replicas of their favorite cars.”

Michael Knöller, head of the off-road vehicles division and CEO of Mercedes-Benz G GmbH, also expresses enthusiasm about this natural pairing. “We are very pleased that our all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology, the electric model of our off-road icon, is making its way into the versatile model range of Matchbox cars,” says Knöller. “We are convinced that it will find its way to many enthusiasts—even outside the G-Fans community.”

In addition to the standard model, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class die-cast will feature in Matchbox’s Moving Parts Series later this year. This variant will boast a classic gray non-metallic finish and movable doors. Like its counterpart, it uses recycled materials and meets the ISCC-certified standards for plastic use.

For those eager to get their hands on this blend of luxury and sustainability, the premium version will be available exclusively on MattelCreations.com for US$29.99 starting April 30. The much more accessible Moving Parts Series version, on the other hand, will hit retail shelves nationwide this fall, priced at US$2.99.
