Are you thinking of getting a pair of AirPods Max for yourself? With its impressive noise-canceling abilities and spatial audio features, it’s probably worth the buy—but you’ll also have to be willing to overlook the side effects.
Some owners of the headphones have reported condensation on the inside of the ear cups after extended periods of use, as revealed on the MacRumors forum.
One user shared, “So I've had my AirPods Max for just under a week, and have noticed that after prolonged usage there’s a decent amount of condensation inside the ear cup.”
MacRumors noted that water droplets have appeared on the magnetic ear cups no matter the temperature. Condensation seems to occur after an hour or two of use.
However, one user, who claimed to also own the Sony WH1000XM3, shared that the issue isn’t exclusive to AirPods Max alone. “It’s no big deal,” they said. “Have none of you owned over the head cans before? Your ears are gonna sweat and there will be some condensation. I think it’s pretty common for this type of headphones.”
Apple hasn’t provided a solution for the condensation problem, prompting worried users to either return the headphones or subscribe to the AppleCare+ protection program. Their concerns aren’t groundless, though, as the US$549 AirPods Max are not water-resistant.
