Pandemic or not, people haven’t been able to attain their dreams of visiting Studio Ghibli’s magical worlds. However, Travel Oregon reassures that its state—with its rainbow of wildflowers, mysterious caves, and secluded mineral hot springs—comes pretty darn close.
A follow-up to its fairytale-esque campaign from 2018 à la Hayao Miyazaki’s dreamscapes, Oregon’s tourism board is once again showing off its favorite spots through an “Only Slightly More Exaggerated” lens with the help of advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy, creative agency Psyop, and animation studio Sun Creature.
The new film imagines a rock monster who controls day and night with a lever, tiny miners not unlike the soot sprites from Spirited Away, and a forest spirit overseeing a remote hot spring.
A girl enjoys Oregon’s culinary delights with a fluffy monster, while a man speeds through a beach in a buggy.
All these places, Travel Oregon promises, are “100% real” but “slightly exaggerated.”
Just as Studio Ghibli has done with its stills, you can also download the surreal artwork from the campaign as wallpapers for free.
