Nike Reveals First ‘Hands-Free’ Footwear For Those Always In A Hurry

Nike is launching a new sneaker model that wearers can step into without using their hands.
The Nike Go FlyEase, part of the brand’s FlyEase line, lets users use one or no hands to put them on. The sneakers cater to those who has special needs or is simply in a hurry.
“We have been using laces for a long time,” manager of FlyEase innovation at Nike, Sarah Reinertsen told CNBC. “But… a lot of times [people] are trying to work around those laces, they’re trying to use one foot to anchor the shoe and slip out. Laces are kind of a hassle. We wanted to make shoes easier for everybody.”
A video shared by the company shows how a hinge is built into the laceless shoe, allowing it to bend into an open position. The wearer can then step in and put down their heel to close the shoe. To remove it, the wearer presses down on the heel with the opposite foot.
“Usually I spend so much time to get in my shoes,” said Italian Paralympic gold medal fencer Bebe Vio. “With the Nike Go FlyEase, I just need to put my feet in and jump on it. The shoes are a new kind of technology, not only for adaptive athletes but for everyone’s real life.”
A reviewer told Fast Company that wearers wouldn’t be able to feel the hidden hinge under the shoe’s footbed when the shoe is worn. A tensioner band holds the hinge in place.
Based on the photos shared by Nike, the kicks come in three color choices—an all-black shoe with dark blue accents, a black, purple, gray and blue combination, and a light green, blue pink and white option.
The shoe is set to drop on 15 February and will retail for US$120.
