If you get a little irked whenever you have to raise and look at your iPhone or tap on its display just to check the time, Apple’s rumored update could fix this annoyance.
New tip-offs from tech leaker Max Weinbach, announced in a video by EverythingApplePro, purport that the next iPhone series will feature an “Always-On Display” mode so users can look at essential details like the time, weather, and battery level whenever they want to.
Weinbach described that, presently, the revamped display appears like a “toned-down lock screen” with an “always visible” clock and battery indicator.
Obviously, with an always-on screen, battery use will be a concern. Apple is apparently addressing this by only activating certain pixels, helped by its LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) OLED technology, to light up these essential details. The rest of the display will be dimmed down.
When a notification is received, it will pop up just like how alerts are normally displayed on the iPhone. However, the light on the rest of the screen will be off.
Elsewhere, the new iPhone lineup is expected to sport matte texturized backs, a feature supported by Apple’s patent for matte Titanium iPhone bodies.
Besides having a smaller notch, the forthcoming iPhones are anticipated to look nearly identical to the iPhone 12 series. Internally, though, they will be built with stronger magnets so Apple’s MagSafe accessories will stay fixed to the smartphones.
In terms of photography, Apple seems to be working on an astrophotography camera setting. This will be on default; simply point your camera at the night sky, and your iPhone will switch to this mode when stars or other cosmic objects are detected.
