McDonald’s might be late to the game, but its plan to conquer the fast-food chicken sandwich wars might ruffle some feathers between rivals.
With their snaking lines and headline-making hype, you could say chicken sandwiches have lured attention akin to the level of adoration expressed by streetwear fans when their favorite brands release a new exclusive collection. McDonald’s is thus holding its new chicken sandwiches to a cult-ish status with a street fashion-like drop.
To introduce three new chicken sandwiches arriving in the US, the fast-food chain is offering limited US$5 swag packs containing a trendy hoodie, an all-new audio track, and early access to the Crispy Chicken Sandwich.
The outerwear, designed with a neutral beige not too far off from the color palette of some YEEZY pieces, comes printed with a black and white image of the new menu item, along with the text, “crispyjuicytender.” An accompanying vinyl track features a never-before-heard song by music producer Tay Keith.
Central to the package is a gift card that offers exclusive access to the Crispy Chicken Sandwich one day before the item’s official launch on 24 February.
The Crispy Chicken Sandwich, topped with pickles and served with a potato bun, is one of three chicken-based offerings McDonald’s will be bringing this month. There will also be a Spicy sandwich, featuring a fiery pepper sauce, and a Deluxe version with lettuce, tomatoes, and mayonnaise.
“We’re excited to give fans early access to this sandwich and exclusive swag they can’t get anywhere else to memorialize this great addition to our menu,” shared David Tovar, vice president of US communications for McDonald’s.
The limited-edition swag packages will be made available on 18 February at noon ET on McDonald’s suitably exclusive CHKNDrop.com website.
