Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted for the first time back in 2006, and now, he wants to sell his first-ever post as a non-fungible token (NFT).
The tweet, which read “just setting up my twttr,” received offers within minutes of the Twitter co-founder tweeting a link to the listing on Valuables by Cent, a tweet marketplace.
The highest offer comes from Sina Estavi, CEO of Bridge Oracle, for US$2.5 million as of last Saturday afternoon, the website states.
If you are wondering how one buys and owns a tweet, the Valuables FAQ page explains that the tweet will continue to be available on Twitter, but the digital certificate of it will be issued to the buyer only.
The new owner will receive an autographed digital certificate, signed using cryptography that will include the metadata of the original tweet.
“Owning any digital content can be a financial investment, hold sentimental value and create a relationship between collector and creator. Like an autograph on a baseball card, the NFT itself is the creator’s autograph on the content, making it scarce, unique, and valuable,” the website explains.
When a buyer purchases the tweet, they can resell it on the website or display it in an online gallery.
