Asahi Breweries has teamed up with Marushige Confectionery to create a series of edible cups in a bid to reduce plastic waste.
Asahi Breweries was looking to find an innovative way to minimize the impact on the planet and the waste of plastics. Together with the confectionery company, the duo developed Mogu cups that you can eat after enjoying your drink.
The cups are created by baking potato starch at high temperature and pressure. It is durable and resistant enough to hold water. Available in three sizes, the cups come in four different flavors: plain, shrimp rice crackers, chocolate, and nuts.
Once you are done with the drink, you can chow down on the eco-friendly beverage cups. According to the company, the cups aren’t just utensils to hold a beverage, but they can also be part of the meal.
The cups also offer a new dining experience by combining the taste between the drink and consumer. The website recommends consumers to purchase the nut-flavored cups as they pair well with drinks. It also works well with broths, curries, and desserts too.
The cups are sold in packs of ten, 1,150 yen (US$10.60) for the smallest size, 1,200 yen (US$11) for the medium one and 1,400 yen for the large cup. You can purchase the cups at the Mogu Cup shop
