Taking a salad leaf out of the book of McDonald’s subtle advertising, Subway Australia has rolled out an outdoor campaign without revealing a hint of its logo or branding.

The billboards, created by advertising agency Publicis Worldwide, simply show close-ups of Subway’s Footlong sandwiches. They bear a level of conviction that onlookers will recognize where to get the menu item and where they can “Eat Fresh” without any name-dropping.

“Sometimes saying less says more,” explained Rodica Titeica, Subway Australia and New Zealand’s head of marketing, in a statement obtained by B&T. “And when your product is as universally known and loved as the Subway Footlong, it speaks for itself.”

She also said the billboards remind customers that “when they’re craving a burger – ours is the best value in town – it’s a Footlong.”
