Obvious limitations in image editing aside, Microsoft Paint undoubtedly holds a special place in the hearts of those who have had the opportunity to play with it. So, in 2017, when Microsoft announced that the software would cease existence from its operating system beginning Windows 10, users around the world were gutted.
A few months later, the company shared that MSPaint would be available for installation in the Microsoft Store, but that plan stayed off the table for years. At long last, there appears to some news about Paint’s comeback. On Wednesday, Brandon LeBlanc, the Senior Program Manager of the Windows Insider Program, revealed that MSPaint will be “updateable via the Microsoft Store outside major OS updates.”
Members of the Windows Insider program will have first dibs of the updates in the new Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21354.
Perhaps to confirm that the basic graphics editor is here to stay, Microsoft even redesigned the MSPaint icon. The new logo appears to have a semi-2D design with mild shadowing and no outlines.

At present, Microsoft hasn’t released details about when MSPaint can be installed by all. Here’s hoping we won’t have to wait another three years.
