Apple Is Rolling Out iOS 14.5 Next Week—Here’s What To Expect

Aside from launching new products, Apple also announced that an iOS update will begin rolling out the week of April 26. Seven months after its last update, the iOS 14.5 will bring a significant change to the current software.
To many users’ relief, iOS 14.5 will finally allow the unlocking of iPhones with a face mask on. The feature, once activated, will unlock the iPhone if the user is also donning an Apple Watch. The update will also add support for PS5 and Xbox Series X controllers.
iOS 14.5 will also see the implementation of new privacy features that have created some buzz in the tech world. Apple says it will add a card asking users for consent to being tracked using IDentification For Advertisers (IDFA). Users can then give consent to apps like Facebook tracking their online movements and be alerted ahead of such activity.
A rumored feature was that iPhone users would be able to select a default audio player that isn’t Apple Music. With the number of users on other platforms like Spotify, it was a welcome change to Apple prioritizing its own apps. However, according to Engadget, the company has quashed those rumors, saying you can’t set a third-party app as your default audio platform.
Though Apple hasn’t announced a specific date, iOS users can look forward to the new update next week.
