Scan The World is a community-built initiative that aims to share 3D printable sculptures and cultural artifacts with the world. It believes by making culture accessible to everyone, communities will be encouraged to share their scans with others and add to its growing collection, too.
The open-source museum currently boasts 18,000 digital scans, a collection that spans a wide array of artworks ranging from the
Bust of Nefertiti to Michaelangelo’s
David. And unlike other museums, these artworks are free to download and 3D-print in just a few hours.
According to Colossal, Scan The World recently partnered with Google Arts and Culture to add thousands of additional art pieces to the platform.
The entire collection is searchable by artist and location, and each page shares information about the artwork’s history and technical details, including the time it’ll take to 3D-print. You can even scroll through each artwork’s comments section to see how others have printed and painted their 3D artifacts.
If you’re new at 3D-printing, take a look at the site’s
tutorials, including a
guide for beginners.
