Very soon, one lucky buyer will be able to say they own a royal gaming console. A one-of-a-kind Nintendo Wii, made in 24K gold exclusively for Queen Elizabeth II, is now up for sale on eBay.
This limited-edition, and very shiny, console was commissioned in 2009 by gaming company THQ as a marketing ploy for its title Big Family Games.
According to the listing, the console is still in working condition and runs on 3.2E firmware, though the Wii-mote “has some wear on the bottom.” Maybe the Queen actually played a game of Wii tennis at some point?
However, don’t expect anything close to the PS5 or Xbox, as the device displays games in only 480p resolution. It also weighs a rather hefty 5.2lbs, all thanks to the gold.
The seller, Donny Fillerup, first came into the limelight in 2019 when popular YouTube channel People Make Games investigated what happened to the Queen’s golden Wii, as per Robb Report.
In the interview from two years ago, he explained how he managed to get his hands on this exclusive device back in 2017. Now, he is putting it up for sale to finance a new home.
The listing states that Fillerup will set up an extra-secure shipping protocol for whoever buys it – the shipment will be insured, tracked, and sent with the highest priority. He’ll also frame its authenticity documents and make digital scans for the owner, so you know you’re getting the real deal.
While it’s hard to say if the Queen did indeed play a game on the console, THQ has said that it delivered the Wii directly to Buckingham Palace in 2009. Take a look at the Queen’s Wii here.
