Unlike the rest of the world, Japan’s taken to designing its manhole covers to be works of street art. The country has
Pokémon manhole covers – you read that right – called Poké Lids (or “pokefuta” in Japanese). They can be found across 15 prefectures throughout the country.
Miyazaki, on the island of Kyushu, had been the first city to receive Poke Lids when they first launched. Now, it has announced it will be getting eight new designs, featuring Pokémon such as Raichu, Marshtomp, and Exeggcute.
As per CNET, Poke Lids are part of a campaign to attract tourists to lesser-known parts of Japan. The unmistakable summery-vibe of the new Poke Lids isn’t a coincidence either; they feature vibrant colors and vibrant sights to represent Miyazaki’s tropical climate.
Want to know where each Poke Lid is located? Head over to the
site to see the regions boast different designs. If you’re ever in the country, the geo-location will help you track them down, too.
