Colgate Brushes Up On Saving The Planet With Recyclable Toothpaste Tube

After five years of research, Colgate-Palmolive has revealed a recyclable toothpaste tube. The best part? The company has immediately offered the technology to competitors in a push to reduce landfill waste and save the planet.
“Colgate-Palmolive wants all toothpaste tubes to meet the same third-party recycling standards that we’ve achieved, so we are openly sharing our technology with toothpaste competitors as well as manufacturers of all kinds of tubes,” said Simon Petersen, GM at Colgate-Palmolive South Pacific, in a statement obtained by Retail News.
The recyclable ‘Colgate Smile For Good’ plastic tubes make use of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which can be recycled at plastic recycling bins in countries such as Australia and the UK. They are based on the same material used to make milk bottles and other recyclable plastic containers.
According to Retail News, Colgate-Palmolive engineers have managed to put together different grades and thicknesses of the HDPE tube to make it squeezable, as the original material was too rigid.
The new recyclable tube, recently unveiled in Australia, adds to the firm’s target of reaching 100% recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging by 2025.
