Daymak, a Canadian company that manufacturers light electric vehicles (weighing less than 500lbs), has surpassed 10,000 pre-orders for its new line, including a three-wheeled car, e-bikes, and a flying car.
One of the biggest highlights of the Avvenire line is how the electric vehicles’ batteries are charged. The company has a patent pending on its wireless charger, which was made specifically for light EVs. Just park over the charger, and voilà, the car’s refueling.
Apart from its wireless charger, the vehicles also come with a solar panel, providing a small but continuous charge that helps to enable onboard electronics and extend the battery life of the car for “an extra couple of kilometers.”
The line’s biggest seller is its three-wheeler Spiritus, which claims to ride “like a go-kart.” All models of the vehicles come in standard or fully-loaded luxury models, which include auto-pilot, solar-trickle charging, wifi connectivity, and more.
While the firm’s flying car, the Skyrider, doesn’t have a price set yet, customers can reserve one for preorder at just US$100.
“For sure that’s the future. It’s sooner than most people realize,” said Baiocchi. Over 600 people have secured their Skyrider pre-orders to date.
Preorders opened back in March for the Avvenire line, hitting more than US$320 million to date. Most of the orders are wholesale, with a remaining US$25.8 million in individual retail.
Founder and CEO Aldo Baiocchi thinks that more time spent outdoors during the COVID-19 pandemic has helped boost the sales figures. “Demand went through [the] roof. Everybody’s going electric. It’s not a question of if, but when,” he told Forbes.
