Tesla Could Be Building Restaurants To Power Up Your Future Road Trips

Picture this: you’re in a diner and the waiter skates up to you. You order a burger. On its walls, the Tesla name is plastered everywhere.
In time, that could be a reality, as the electric automaker has filed trademarks through the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to apply its branding in restaurant settings, Electrek first reported. The documents, pending review by late August, request that Tesla’s marks—including its name, wordmark, and monogram—be used across “restaurant services, pop-up restaurant services, self-service restaurant services, take-out restaurant services.”
As unexpected as that seems, the move validates statements from former CTO JB Straubel in 2017 about Tesla setting its sights on the restaurant business by transforming EV charging stations into one-stop convenience stores that serve meals.
CEO Elon Musk turned this idea into a tech lover’s fantasy in 2018, tweeting that this mythical “rock restaurant” would have “an old school drive-in [and] roller skates.” He envisioned that this concept would roll out in “Tesla Supercharger locations in LA.” Certainly, Tesla’s red and white color scheme would pair perfectly with the retro diner theme.
Since details are scant, it’s also worth noting that Tesla might simply be allowing these trademarks to be used by partnering restaurants.
The restaurants would essentially serve as a rest stop not just for the nourishment of cars, but drivers as well. The exclusive nature of a Tesla-owned restaurant, which could somewhat serve as a member’s club, might also even entice drivers to finally purchase an electric car from the brand.
