Google Sheets are lighting up with pride, thanks to a fun addition uncovered in the free spreadsheets tool, just in time for Pride Month.
As spotted by Twitter designer Paul Stamitaou, when you enter the word “PRIDE” across columns, the entire sheet would be splashed in rainbow colors. It’s an Easter egg anyone staring at drab grayscale cells all day would appreciate.
Upon discovering this neat trick, others have noted that it also works with translations of “PRIDE” in other languages, since acceptance is multifaceted.
For those hoping to create colorful Google Sheet art, some users have additionally discovered that the Easter egg is compatible with formulae, allowing you to create rainbow documents with “PRIDE” spelled out diagonally or in other shapes.
Who knew you could make colorful parades out of boring spreadsheets too? Hopefully, this feature will thrive beyond Pride Month, because color-coded sheets are certainly more enticing than black and white ones.
just learned that if you type PRIDE across Google Sheet columns it does this: pic.twitter.com/Lf7hfWJyP1

Curious; it works with formulae as well:

I added the actual characters in various rows and columns that aren't the homerow, and using `=[cell]` to map the characters back results in the same effect. Neato! pic.twitter.com/Tj6QNsJUvZ
Works with other languages too. Portuguese (“orgulho”), e. g.: pic.twitter.com/y1tgdumoZZ
