Watch An Ancient Egyptian Mummy Go Through A CT Scan At A Hospital

This well-lived patient at the Policlinico of Milan hospital was put through a CT scan, but not because of a knee injury.
To discover its identity and find out more about its life, researchers moved an ancient mummy from Bergamo’s Civic Archaeological Museum to the hospital and placed it under the procedure in hopes to reconstruct the burial practices dating some 3,000 years back.
The mummy is believed to belong to a priest from 900 to 800 BC named Ankhekhonsu, meaning “the god Khonsu is alive,” as it was written five times on the sarcophagus.
“The mummies are practically a biological museum; they are like a time capsule," explained Sabina Malgora, the director of the Mummy Project Research, in a statement shared by Reuters.
Such analysis can also offer insight into ancient diseases and wounds, paving the way for advancements in modern medicine.
