You’ve likely returned some clothes to the store because they didn’t quite fit. With this innovative adaptable wear, that will never be a problem. Not now, nor in the future as your body changes.
London-based wearable technology firm Petit Pli is recognized for designing children’s clothing that
grows with little wearers. Now, it has refined its craft to make
adultwear that seamlessly contracts or expands to accommodate any body shape and size—even through all stages of pregnancy, stretching during the nine months to support “extreme anatomical and physiological changes,” and shrinking after.
Made from mono-fiber polyester, the soft, comfortable and highly versatile unisex clothing was created in hopes of eliminating fashion waste and serving pregnant women. The material also ensures the garments are more easily recyclable at their end of life, as the usual mixed fabrics would require more energy to break down.
Ryan Mario Yasin, the company’s founder and CEO, tells
Dezeen that the pieces target areas known to stretch or contract during movement or growth, such as “across the bust, under arms and around the bump.” Petit Pli COO Arabella Turek says this zone can “triple in size over a matter of weeks during pregnancy.”
The range comprises a outer and inner gilets, as well as trousers, all constructed with elasticated bands at the waist or hem for the perfect fit. Countering the typically shapeless, loose forms of unisex wear, the pieces are designed to hug the body no matter its shape or size.
The “one-size adult fit” collection could also eliminate the need to send back clothes over size-related issues, a significant player in fashion emissions.
The Petit Pli Adultwear, unveiled on July 2, is available to pre-order
