Giant Burberry Bag Sighted Floating Along London’s River Thames

A UFO was spotted on London’s River Thames: that is, an Unidentified Floating Object. At least, until you squint at the structure keeping it afloat to see the Burberry name, or recognize the Olympia design, and realize that it’s a giant handbag.
“We were shocked, actually ,because it’s really huge,” said one passerby to Dazed. Indeed, against the stark city backdrop, the polished camel hue of the bag almost looks like it’s been superimposed onto the city.

Burberry carried out a series of international popups to celebrate the Olympia bag, a signature design from the fashion house. Described by the company as “a structured and sculptural bag, a celebration of modern classicism” in a statement, the bag is defined by its unique circular silhouette.
The popup spaces, with Harrods as the chosen first location, aimed to be “a celebration of the aesthetics, craftsmanship and inspiration of the bag.”
The titan-sized bag was first spotted at City Hall, having embarked on its cruise from the Royal Victoria docks. Passing Tower Bridge, it sailed south towards the Royal Naval College in Greenwich, where it moored for three days before making a return journey.
Continuing on its summer travels as part of the Burberry Landscapes campaign, the Olympia has now voyaged on to Dubai, where it will enjoy a warmer climate and undoubtedly some fantastic views, too. We don’t know where it would be headed after that, but if we come across the handbag delightfully designed at a size suitable for elephants to hit the streets, we probably won’t be too taken aback.
