“Your generation is the first to grow up with computers. Go change the world!” wrote Steve Jobs on a signed Apple II Manual to the son of UK entrepreneur Michael Brewer, who negotiated the distribution rights for Apple in the UK in 1979.
Now, this inscribed 196-page reference manual, accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient, Julian Brewer, will go under the hammer at the Steve Jobs and Apple Auction by RR Auction, starting August 12.
“Steve Jobs’ inscription powerfully conveys his grand ambition and vision for the future of Apple and personal computing as a whole,” said Bobby Livingston, Executive Vice-President at RR Auction.
Alongside the Apple II Manual, a rare early edition Apple I computer will also be headlining the auction. A series of early computers from the personal collection of computing pioneer Roger Wagner will also go on the block – consisting of an Altair 8800, Apple II, and Apple Lisa.
The highly sought-after Apple I computer—the first-ever product by the now tech giant—is still functional, complete with its original operating manual proof pages and hardware suite. The current estimate for the collector’s item stands at US$450,000.
The computer had first gone up for auction in April 2002, then bought by Wagner, who is a longtime friend of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Wagner had also authored the first book on assembly-language programming for the subsequent Apple II model.
Other featured lots in the auction include Jobs’ leather bomber jacket, worn in the iconic 1983 picture where he gave “the finger” to IBM. A signed issue of the Macworld #1 by Jobs and Wozniak will also go under the hammer.
The auction will take place from August 12 to August 19. For more information, head here.
