Walt Disney World’s newest attraction scheduled for 2022 is the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a totally immersive experience where guests will get to embark on their own journey through the Star Wars universe. And what journey would be complete without a lightsaber?
In the new video released by Disney, we’re afforded a new look at the real-life lightsaber that’ll accompany visitors on their quest. A gleaming blade of light extends out of the hilt, elevating the usual lightsaber toys or replicas that we’re used to seeing.
Earlier this year, we were allowed a crumb of a peek at the gadget as part of an apologetic announcement that the opening of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser had been delayed. But the new video intentionally centers the lightsaber, and takes it to a whole new level.
A 2018 patent revealed more details on how it works: two strips of plastic that retract and extend (akin to a tape measure) via motor are wrapped around each other to form a cylinder. In the middle, a strip of LEDs creates an otherworldly glow.
The two-night adventure at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser doesn’t just let you wield a lightsaber and fend off a remote training device; guests will also be able to explore and learn about the working bridge of the Halcyon starcruiser, take a trip to Batuu, and wind down at the end of the day at the Sublight Lounge.
