If you’re locked in and hankering for a cold one with the bros, look no further than your dog, who can now accompany you for drinks too, thanks to Anheuser-Busch.
Busch Dog Brew is—and should be—free of alcohol and hops. Rather than being an actual beer, the canned concoction is, in truth, a nutritious pork bone broth made from bone-in pork butt, whole corn, celery, basil, mint, turmeric, and ginger. The hearty brew, served in a four-pack, was launched on National Dog Day last year and has since become a favorite among pet owners.
The brew makes an ideal diet choice for pups who can’t take solid foods, but across the board, Anheuser-Busch recommends pouring the drink into dog bowls or over pet food. While there’s virtually nothing worse than lukewarm beer, the brand notes that some dogs don’t like cold foods, so it might prefer its pint at room temperature.
Fast Company, which recently paid the brand’s innovation lab in Missouri a visit, reports that the drink was developed by members of Anheuser-Busch’s Innovation Machine, who were able to condense what would have been an 18 month-process into a project lasting “around 100 days.”
In case you’re wondering, because of course you are, humans can take a swig of Busch Dog Brew too, but Anheuser-Busch warns it’s going to taste “pretty bland.” Ruh-roh.
“This bone broth is made for a dog’s refined palate… and yes, we’ve tried it a few times. Part of the job,” says the company.
