Domino’s knows the pain of ordering food on a delivery app only to have random fees sprung up on you at the end during checkout. “Like, what’s a city fee?” the pizza company
asks. It’s a good question, but its new scheme doesn’t require anyone to come up with the answer.
The campaign is Surprise Frees, a diss at the concept of delivery providers’ surprise fees. With the aim to snatch back its customer base from the rise of popular services such as DoorDash and UberEats, the pizza company is giving away up to US$50 million worth of free food, ranging from its well-loved pizzas to a sweet treat in the form of lava cake.
Delivery apps not only pinch customers’ wallets with hidden fees, but they also hurt restaurants, Domino’s explains. Small restaurants may not be able to sustain the fees charged to use the delivery platform, but they also lose out on business when they’re not visible on the service as a result. Lockdowns over the last year and a half have only proved that even further.
“We charge customers one straightforward delivery fee because we believe that level of transparency is what customers want and deserve,” Domino’s
declares.
All pizza lovers need to do to get their hands on some free deliciousness is make an order for pizza delivery online, direct from Domino’s, of course. Domino’s will randomly select a customer and notify them via the order confirmation page and email. Recipients are encouraged to share their joy with the hashtag #FreesNotFees.
Domino’s is also holding a giveaway on Twitter for US$25,000 worth of gift cards. More free cheesy goodness for everyone, perhaps the best kind of surprise.
