Who says fine art isn’t for everybody? With non-fungible tokens (NFTs) gaining steam in the creative world, centuries-old paintings are once more capturing appreciators of art. This time, a masterpiece by Claude Monet is up for sale, and as the world’s first Impressionist NFT, it’s paving the way for people who wish to sell their collections without making themselves known or going through the auction house route.
Minted by cryptocurrency consultancy Innovation Without Borders, Monet’s Spring Sunshine (1865) will also be the first-ever Impressionist piece sold on direct auction through a smart contract, WeRSM reports. Aside from an exclusive digital token, Innovation Without Borders says that the buyer will also receive the original physical painting.
The firm details that the original artwork has been authenticated by “various independent appraisers and researchers after over two decades of study,” and that supporting documents including commissioned assessments will accompany the physical and digital copies, similar to if you were to purchase art from a traditional auction.
Beginning with Spring Sunshine, the company hopes to resonate with a fresh market of fine art lovers wishing to trade and collect works through alternative means. More pieces are to be expected from its new platform, ImpressionNFTs.
We are excited to announce the first Impressionist and Claude Monet #NFT. Accompanying this novel NFT auction is the matching physical work "Spring Sunshine" from 1865, only on @rariblecom. Check out the story and follow to stay tuned for more details! https://t.co/sl3sSIHmhM
