You can always count on a McDonald’s to fix your hunger at every corner, but did you know its fries are also great for holding attention on the road? Neither did we, until advertising agency Nord DDB Oslo directed us to this campaign it produced for McDonald’s Norway with the country’s leading road safety organization.
Visualizing road markings as an iconic menu item, McDonald’s coaxes drivers to keep their eyes on the prize, the fries. Here’s the rule: when you’re driving, focus on what’s ahead of you and nothing else. When you’re hungry, park somewhere and get some real fries.
With nearly 40% of its meals ordered via drive-thrus, McDonald’s Norway is assuming responsibility in encouraging road safety, too. The temptation might be too much, but the fast-food chain also warns against eating while driving.

“As one of the leading restaurant chains, we take our responsibilities seriously,” says Mari Husby, Senior Marketing Manager at McDonald’s Norway. “Reminding people to stop and take a break and to keep their eyes on the road marks while driving is not our normal type of communication, but is nevertheless as important… [and] especially relevant during holiday periods when a lot of Norwegians travel.”
To steer the campaign into diners’ line of sight, McDonald’s in Norway has also pushed these “fries” onto its packaging, road billboards, leading motor magazines in Norway, as well as online.
